BEGINNINGS
Arion Bouviers des Flandres was founded in 1978 when I, Chris Redenbach (Neves), purchased Cayce du Clos des Cerberes, Marieke du Plateau and Camilla du Clos des Cerberes and shipped them to Brazil where I lived. I chose the Bouvier because of its all round working ability and relative freedom from genetic disease in those days. That was then. What has not changed is my dedication to the original Bouvier, a hardy working dog for all seasons and most jobs. What has changed is the breed all around me. The Bouvier is now essentially two different breeds: the show dog/pet and the working dog/active companion. The two look and act differently and generally present a different picture in terms of general pros and cons.

MISSION
The Mission of Arion Bouviers is to produce top level working companion dogs who can perform at high competitive levels primarily in the protection arena and herding and still be gratifying personal companions. That said, I also fear that breeding solely for sports performance may alter the correct breed character in different ways than selection for show dogs. The true character of the breed must be preserved as best it can be determined now that its original work as an all round farm dog is no longer occupies a large niche in society. But the traits that made the breed what the FCI standard describes are what Arion strives for: “The Bouvier des Flandres possesses the calm and measured character of a wise dare devil. By the fire of his expression, he reveals intelligence, energy, and audacity. The Bouvier des Flandres should absolutely conserve these aptitudes for work. Anything that could weaken these aptitudes must be penalized.”
